War Museum | An Extension of Tugu Negara

History shapes the future yet it is constantly to the brim of being neglected. Therefore a notion is aroused to combine the interactivity of two realms to create a refreshed narrative for Tugu Negara to uphold its importance in the eyes of the youth for tomorrow.

Without overpowering the prominence of the Tugu Negara, the War Museum is orientated following the terrain on an area with less gradient to embrace and integrate into the existing landscape. Thus, emerges a horizontal layout that is simple yet communicates the strength of this commemorative space.

The knowledge segment leads visitors through a sequential route consists of six thematic galleries following the timeline of the Malayan Emergency. With the power of light, shadow and texture, stories come to life at each of the galleries namely the British Colonization, World War II, Devoid of Law and Order, Communism in Malaya, Malayan Emergency and Path to Independence. Housed within an enclosure with a green roof, symbolises history healing as well as emphasizes environmental friendliness. Finally, the reminiscence emotionally engages with visitors, where the reconstruction of the war memory comes full circle with the names of the fallen inscribed on the solid granite memorial wall.
